Stayin' Alive

Since my visit to Mexico in December I made it clear to my family that I do not mean any disrespect when I say no to food offerings but that I will not eat food that is offered simply because it is a strong cultural tradition to share love through food. Usually they take it personally, until i show them pictures of myself from last august when I was just over 70 pounds heavier. Though I wish health would be prioritized here more, I guess I'm glad I have an excuse that gets me out of being in bad favor when I say no to daily offerings (multiple daily offerings). Here is a picture from dinner time on 4.20.2011. It's my oatmeal with cinnamon and a whole bunch of plain celery sticks. Food that I can honestly say i enjoy eating and I know is healthy for my body. The food in the containers is food I did not eat, nor do I even remember what everyone else had. Mealtime with family is my favorite when the type or amount of food has nothing to do with how the table conversation goes. Meals with others aren't supposed to be about the food.... I'm almost certain of that now. Meals with others, like most activities with others is about....,, yeah....im going to say it.....COMPANY.
